French

At Gulworthy we believe that the learning of a foreign language provides a valuable educational, social and cultural experience for our pupils.  It contributes to children’s realisation of their own identity and they are able to make better comparisons between their culture and the culture of others’. It helps them to develop communication skills including key skills of speaking and listening and extends their knowledge of how language works.  Learning another language gives children a new perspective on the world, encouraging them to understand their own cultures and those of others.

The focus language taught in our Federation is French. We provide a block of French lessons for Year 3 and above, every academic term. We use Lightbulb languages as our French Scheme as it provides a broad curriculum that builds upon previous knowledge. We use songs, games, role-play and various other teaching techniques in order to create fun and engaging lessons where the learning objective can be easily remembered.

We have mapped out a progression of skills across Key Stage Two...
The National Curriculum for languages can be found by clicking here. We study French as our language at Gulworthy.
